Job Description

Manual Machinist / Machine Technician / Lathe Operator required to join a global, leading engineering manufacturer.

Manual Machinist / Machine Technician / Lathe Operator shall be operating manual lathes and mills to produce and repair precision parts for various mechanical products such as motors, gearboxes, pumps, generators, engines and similar at the workshop in Sheffield.

Manual Machinist / Machine Technician / Lathe Operator will ideally have experience with manual lathes, manual machine tools, mechanical assemblies, metrology equipment with experience in reading technical drawings, setting up machines, and ensuring adherence to tight tolerances.

Manual Machinist / Machine Technician / Lathe Operator Role
  • Operate manual lathes and mills to produce and repair precision parts for mechanical products such as motors, gearboxes, pumps, generators, engines and similar at the workshop in Sheffield.
  • Perform accurate centre lathe turning for component manufacturing and repair.
  • Use metrology equipment to ensure precise measurement and compliance with specifications.
  • Conduct repairs, maintenance, and installations on mechanical systems, including pumps, motors, gearboxes, engines, generators, and similar electromechanical machinery.
  • Participate in training for additional skills, such as thermal spraying and welding, to expand expertise.
  • Liaise with various engineering departments

Machinist / Manual Machinist / Lathe Operator Requirements:
  • Experience with manual lathes, manual machine tools, mechanical assemblies, metrology equipment.
  • Proven experience with manual machine tools such as lathes and mills, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in using metrology equipment for precision measurement.
  • Apprenticeship or engineering qualification in mechanical or machining disciplines is advantageous.
  • Reading technical drawings, setting up machines, and ensuring adherence to tight tolerances is essential.
  • Ability to lift to 25kg and perform repetitive tasks, with a focus on safety and quality.
