Job Description

Our client has an exciting opportunity for two Transport Supervisors to take a leading role within the transport team at Portbury. The business operates a rotating shift one week the hours of work will be 5am - 1300 and the next 12:30 - 20:00; although the business is open to discussing fixed shift patterns if this is preferrable.

The role is responsible for supervising the day-to-day transport operation, ensuring daily targets and weekly KPIs are met thereby ensuring an efficient and effective first-class service to customers within budget.


  • In the absence of the Transport Operations Manager being the first point of contact for customers, assisting with queries and taking full responsibility for operational decisions required to deliver a seamless service
  • · Motivating drivers to achieve targets and deadlines through guidance and encouragement
  • · Promoting excellent Health & Safety and environmental awareness and challenging poor performance
  • · Providing the Delivery and Trunking network with first class service, delivered within the legal constraints of the Operators licence and Road Traffic Act legislation
  • · Ensure the operation is fully compliant with legislation and company tachograph policy relating to infringements and tachograph control for all drivers
  • Conducting delivery driver "debriefs" at the end of each shift to check for missed deliveries or other issues and take corrective action
  • Monitor performance, timekeeping and sickness levels to ensure disciplinary, grievance and absence procedures are delivered in line with company performance and maintain respect for the individual, consistency and confidentiality
  • Resource drivers and vehicles against the transport plan
  • Encourage two-way feedback and ideas for improving working practices and involve drivers in seeking solutions to operational problems
  • Maintaining and developing high levels to teams work and morale within the department

Person Specification

  • Experience of working within a similar transport role
  • Experience of working within a fast pace environment
  • Full knowledge of transport legislation
  • Experience of supervising a team
  • Experience of delivering targets within budgetary constraints
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • IT literate
  • Ability to work on own initiative and meet required targets and deadlines
